In our society, we observe harassments on women and girl child such as sexual harassment, women trafficking, gender discrimination are different types of harassments that women face the challenges daily. In my view women harassment begins from their home only, of course, it has changed somewhat now. Coming to the story
A Beautiful orthodox family consisting Govindarajan the head of the family and Seetha Devi wife of Ramanujan and their two children “Dharani” 27-year-old young girl and “ Gagan“ 23-year young boy.
Govindarajan is a mathematics genius and he is working as Head of The Department for a famous university as he is going to retire he wants his son to continue the position after him.
One fine day he orders his son to pursue the entrance test and grabs the prestigious position
But his son wants to be a writer he refuses to do it. GovindaraJan cant digest and he feels sad for his son and he wants to find happiness at last from her daughter side. Whereas he brings a marriage proposal to the girl. But Dharani is an independent ideology girl but she can't express her feelings but she conveys to her mother about the dream of becoming HoD and she is having a dream of fulfilling fathers dream. But the mother refuses and says you are not a man and you are supposed to marry at some time even I have got married to your father at this age only. You might have many dreams and goals but after all, you are a woman you are dependent so you have no other alternative and get ready for marriage. The statement given by her mother is a depressed statement and falls sad for it.
The day of the exam has arrived and Govindarajan sits idle and thinking of his sons, after some time he got a call from the university that congratulations sir your dream is fulfilled.
Govindarajan: He replies what are you talking my son has not written the entrance test how can he qualify.
University chancellor: What are you saying is right your legacy will be continued as your daughter got qualified the examination and acquired the position. You can speak to her.
Daughter: Father I am very happy that I have fulfilled your dream but you never encouraged me as you encouraged Gagan. I want to ask you a lot of times why are you discouraging girl education and dreams and independent life is it mandatory to marry after some time, there is no respect on girls decision. this all I want to discuss with you but no one listened to me and encouraged Gagan for his writing dream and to forget about that moment you have brought a marriage proposal to me.
Govindarajan: Dear Dharani with emotional tears rolling on his face am sorry I cant understand the feelings of you I might be successful as a scholar not as a father. Please come home dear will be waiting for you and disconnects the telephone emotionally.
Govindarajan keenly waiting for her daughter and suddenly a police van and ambulance will enter his home.
He literally shocks and asks inspector what happened to my daughter, the inspector replies sorry sir your daughter has been attacked by goons and killed her for the money.
Govindarajan and family fell down with sudden shock and the inspector handovers the items of Dharani to the family. The handbag consists of her personal dairy In that diary.
Govindarajan opens the diary there is a note that says the pain of a girl. She writes as in the world girl has equal rights as men and she can achieve dreams and goals she can leave independently but gender discrimination begins from home only. For Example, you are a girl you can't play cricket and you need to learn cooking you have to get married at some stage, you are meant for it only. If the discrimination brings from home only then how can a girl can face society. Govindaraj recognizes his daughter but now what is the use.
Writers Note: I want to convey that women are discriminated from their own families and how can they face society the girl family must respect their feelings and respond on their dreams. If the discrimination faces from home only how can they face society is my question In the above story the father Govindarajan is a scholar and well-educated man but he does n’t know to respect the feelings of the daughter so what is the use of his studies. So please let them achieve their goals and live them independently
